Bobcats Secure Home Game for Playoffs

Senior Steve Jacobsen (pictured) made sure we would be home for the first round of the playoffs by scoring two goals 1:16 seconds a part in the first half and would lead the team to a 2-1 victory over Franciscan University. 

It was a very competitive match as Franciscan came into the game with the same AMCC record of 6-3.  Jacobsen would collect his goals in the early part of the first half and we would hold on to win the important season finale. 

The win locked up the #4 seed for the AMCC tournament and gives us a home game at 6:30 pm against La Roche College on Saturday night, October 31st.  We ended the regular season winning our last seven matches for an 11-6-1 record and 7-3 in the AMCC.  If we win, the semi-finals will be in Buffalo on Wednesday agaisnt #1 seed Medaille College.

Senior's Have Their Day

It was only fiiting that on senior day the seniors would account for 5 of the 6 goals and 14 of the teams 16 points as they guided the Bobcats to a 6-1 defeat of Pitt-Bradford.

Freshman Dillon Muise would get things going in the 6th minute and then the seniors would take care of the rest.  Sean Jones made it 2-0 in the 12th minute and then in less than 10 minutes seniors Mike Bowers, Chris Mumby, Steve Jacobsen, and Ricky Marchant would all tally goals making it 6-1 before the 23rd minute of play.

It was a great way for the seniors to go out.  It's nice when you have a senior class that is invested in the program.  Every senior has started throughout their career, so it was nice to have all 8 of them start together and put on a good performance for their final regular season home game.  That puts us at 6 wins in row and was the first game that we had every player healthy and dressed since the first game of the season.  Things are finally starting to click and I think we are playing our best soccer as we get ready for the playoffs.  The outcomes of our match with Franciscan (9-6) and La Roches' game with Altoona will determine whether we are home or away for the first round of the AMCC playoffs on Saturday.

Five in a Row

Sophomore Michael Bistany netted the "Golden Goal" in double overtime yesterday to give us the 2-1 win over LaRoche College.

This was an important win for us becasue now both teams are 5-3 in AMCC play and we hold the tiebreaker.  The #4 seed and a home field game for the playoffs will most likely come down to us and LaRoche.  Both of us have 2 games left that will determine the final seeding, so nothing will be set until the final day fo the season.

The first half of the game was a bit sloppy as we gave the ball away too much in the mid-field, but the back line played well and only allowed 2 shots on goal.  The second half was much cleaner and we moved ball around much more efficiently and held a 9-3 advantage in shots in the second half.  Senior Ricky Marchant got us on the board in the opening five minutes after slotting home a flicked on header from Dillon Muise.  We seemed to be in control of the game and never let LaRoche be too threatening, but after a poor clearance in our box found one of their forwards alone at the top of the 18, he buried it in the upper right corner and tied the match at one.

We would have a few more chances to put the game away, but were unsuccessful until Mike Bistany found the back of the net off of another lay off from Muise in the second overtime.

Senior Day will be this Saturday at 1pm against Pitt-Bradford as we will see 8 seniors play their final regular season home match for FSU.

Marchant Grabs Player of the Week Honors

Senior Ricky Marchant (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson) took home the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week honors this week for his two goals and two assists, Monday.
Marchant helped FSU (8-6-1, 4-3) defeat AMCC opponents Mt. Aloysius, 6-0, and D'Youville, 7-1, and improve its winning streak to four games.

Marchant netted two goals against Mt. Aloysius and chipped in two assists in the Bobcats's victory over D'Youville. He is currently tied for first on the Frostburg State squad in goals with five.

Slow Start - Strong Finish

The weather held up for us in Buffalo as we missed the snow storm that dumped 7 inches on central PA.  It was cold and cloudy, but the field was in a good shape and the cold rain held off until after the match.

We are still struggling to put a solid 90 minutes together and prove that we are capble of making a run the for the AMCC Championship.  As usual, we came out and moved the ball well and created a ton of opportunities (23) but failed to score.  Our lack of efficiiency in front of the net cost us as we allowed only 2 shots, but found ourselves down 0-1 at the break.  The second half was a different story as the offense woke up and registered 7 goals, including 4 in the first 15 minutes of play.  Freshman Dillon Muise recorded his first collegiate hat-trick in the first 15 minutes of the second half.  Seniors Sean Jones and Steve Jacobsen each tallied a goal as well as Shawn Baker and Soctt Wasser.

Before the match the team travelled to Niagara Falls to see the majectic views of the 8th Wonder of the World....

Boys Night Out

The team enjoyed the day off from training last week as we headed down to RFK for the USA vs. Costa Rica World Cup Qualifier.

We weren't sure what we would get with the USA having already clinched  a birth, but they would not dissappoint.  The game was full of excitement as the USA created numerous scoring opportunities, but failed to capitalize and Costa Rica would counter with two early goals.  The second was a tremendous shot from outside the box that went upper 90.

The USA kept fighting and made a strong push in the second half and finally got one back in the 70th minute.  The closing minutes were frantic as the USA was pushing everyone forward.  The dramatic game tying goal was off a corner in the 5th minute of stoppage time and it sent the crowd into a  frenzy.  Not a bad way to take a break from the practice pitch...

Three in a Row

We picked up our third win in a row yesterday as we knocked off Mt. Aloysius 6-0.  It was a game we were supposed to win, so I was glad to see us take care of business and hoepfully gain more confidence now that we have won three in throw and have posted back to back shutouts.

Seniors Steve Jacobsen and Ricky Marchant (pictured) would get the scoring started in the first half as we would go to break with a 2-0 lead.  Sophomore defender Jamie Flewellyn made the most of his move to the front line as he scored 2 goals in the first 6 minutes of the second half.  Mike Bistany would register a long range shot and Ricky Marchant picked up his second of the day to finish up the scoring.  Freshman keeper Abiye Jack saw his firts action since being injured and posted his first collegiate shutout.

Tonight the team will take the day off as we travel down to RFK for the USA vs. Costa Rica World Cup Qualifier.
